Anointed for a Noble Mission

March 20th is a momentous day in the Almighty Father’s Kingdom Nation for it commemorates the Anointing of the Appointed Son of God 49 years ago in what was hailed as the dawning of the Son’s glorious role of being the point of salvation for humanity.

It marks an epoch-making chapter in the life of the Son which will forever be immortalized in the annals of Kingdom history. One man from the fallen Adamic race was chosen and anointed for a sublime purpose that was etched in stone: to bring deliverance to the spiritual captives, to loosen the shackles of those who were under the bondage of sin, to be the beacon of light to the darkened world of humanity.

How God Picks His Chosen One

Anointing means consecration or to make holy for a sacred purpose. Most of the time, God would use a bunch of misfits and transform them into men of extraordinary strength. Biblical figures like Moses and David, to name a few, are not up to par based on the world’s standard.

The story of David’s calling, and later on, his consecration by God for His greater purpose in the book of Samuel is a testimony of God’s rather unconventional, eccentric ways of picking His chosen ones. It’s proof that God works in ways far beyond human comprehension.

Who would have thought that David will be handpicked over his siblings who, by worldly judgment, looked worthier to be chosen by God. For if it were by looks and charm, without an iota of doubt, Eliab (David’s older brother) would have won by default. But it is the heart that God sees, not the appearance.

David’s sincerity and unfaltering faith in the Higher Power stood out and God took notice of that.

The Selection Process

Samuel was the prophet who was sent to look for the man who would be appointed as the new King of Israel. He brought with him a flask of olive oil and went to see Jesse in Bethlehem because God had chosen one of his sons to be the king. Jesse had eight sons who were paraded before him and went through conscientious scrutiny one by one.

As the prophet came to witness Jesse’s eldest son, Eliab, he said in his mind, “the search for the King is over.” In his judgment, Eliab had the makings of a mighty warrior who can govern God’s chosen people.

Yet, God’s selection criteria for choosing His leaders are different from man’s.

He doesn’t see the outward appearance but the character down at the person’s core. That is what He saw in David and even called him “a man after my own heart”.

God’s standard is spiritual not physical. Though Eliab has the characteristics of a strong, mighty warrior in the physical sense, God didn’t see the very essence that He looks for in a leader: Unwavering Faith.

God probes the deepest recesses of the heart. David was deemed to be the least worthy among his siblings. He was undervalued and was taken lightly by his father because he didn’t have the regal attributes that his brothers had.

In the mortal view of things, David didn’t even stand a chance in terms of the world’s yardstick of quality. But in God’s sight, he sparked the brightest. His exquisite character surpassed any known standards of man, for he was chosen by God based on His spiritual qualifications.

The Anointing of David

Prophet Samuel, though taken aback by God’s choice of David, went ahead and followed His command unquestioningly. He took his flask of olive oil and anointed David in the presence of his brothers. And the Scriptures tell us that right then and there, the Spirit of the Lord came over David and stayed with him from that day on.

We love the story of David and Goliath, where the young David fought valiantly against the giant warrior of the Philistines using his sling. When the army of Israel was challenged by the Philistines, nobody dared to combat the gigantic Goliath but David, the anointed One himself.

It seemed like David was kicking against the pricks, yet he never downplayed God’s power. He didn’t cow in fear, but completely put his trust in the One who sent him. He knew God would be in perfect control in spite of him being the underdog in that bout. He kind of understood that God would deliver His people from the pit of destruction.

The Anointing of the Appointed Son

Just as David was called and anointed by God to lead His chosen people and deliver them from the onslaught of the enemy, one man from the fallen Adamic race was also chosen to carry the gargantuan task of leading the Father’s flock back to His fold.

He was handpicked from among the billions to carry out the noblest task imaginable: to deliver souls from the bondage of religions and denominations, hence completing the Father’s work of salvation in man.

That said, Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy was destined to be the Father’s audible voice in these end times in fulfillment of His words in Romans 5:19 that says: “For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall man be made righteous.”

But before the glorious Sonship, before God elevated him to such exalted stature, Pastor Apollo faced his Goliath for 5 years in the furnace of affliction to test his loyalty, commitment, and absolute obedience to the Father’s Will. Had his dedication to serve the Father dwindled a bit, there is no salvation to speak of today.

In Pastor Apollo’s spiritual journey, the Father shaped and molded him perfectly according to His design. He went through the crucible of adversity that tested him to the limits. Tangible miracles and extraordinary revelations were seen and witnessed by those who were with him during the toughest days of his spiritual training.

One noteworthy event was the Anointing of the Son, which took place on March 20, 1974, in a small UPC chapel in Tamayong. Pastor Apollo was preaching about the fruits of the flesh and the fruits of the spirit in Galatians 5:19-23 when he stopped and stood still.

All of a sudden, heavenly visitors came and one held a cup and poured oil on him, then it streamed down to his face, to his clothes, to his body. Pastor Apollo then suddenly woke from his phantasmagoric state and the sweet fragrance, which his biological father described as a million roses bundled together, wafted inexorably through the entire chapel.

Two pillars of white cloud appeared on the altar, dense and exuding cold. The worship inside the tiny chapel rose to a crescendo. There were rejoicing and tears of celebration.

It was the scent of spikenard, a heavenly fragrance whose ineffably sweet scent lasted for months on Pastor Apollo’s clothes, his Bible, and even in his closet. It was nothing short of an ethereal experience that had anything to do with the anointing oil that was poured upon him. He then realized that it was the Father who anointed him for a special purpose: to be the point of salvation for man.

“Today, believe it or not, God has anointed me,” Pastor Apollo declared.

And those who believed felt the presence of angels though they could not see it, and was able to smell the fragrance.

Each time Pastor Apollo had fellowship with them in their respective houses, the same sweet-smelling scent would exude from him, leaving everyone in awe.

But there were those who experienced none of this because they had doubts in their hearts. Their eyes remained closed to the spiritual things of God. The anointing of Pastor Apollo, who would become the Son of God in these last days, passed them, and they did not know it.

Like David, the Father saw the unparalleled kind of FAITH that Pastor Apollo had displayed in his years of onerous spiritual training. He braved every ordeal that battered him day in and day out. He risked his life going for the unpopular path, chose to tread on the road less traveled and emerged victorious in proving to the Father that he was genuine in his covenant which he had sworn in the Mountain of Decision.

He didn’t crumble in the face of adversity. On the contrary, he grew deeper in his wisdom, knowledge, and understanding in doing the Father’s Will.

The Son’s anointing plays a significant part in spiritual history for it entails the crucial role of the Son’s noble mission for the salvation of man.

His purpose of Divine anointing was encapsulated in Luke 4:18-19 which says:

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.”

Fast forward, exactly 49 years ago, from that fateful night, we are a living witness of how the Almighty Father has guided the Appointed Son and the Kingdom Nation through victories after victories. Even in the face of the greatest trials and persecutions, the Son has remained victorious as the Almighty Father has promised in His words, “Be still and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10)

This is the purpose of the anointing of the Appointed Son, Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy, to deliver the message of deliverance to all the world for the salvation of humanity.
