Pastor ACQ on Playing Golf, “Striving to be better than yesterday challenges me.’’
Golf, without a speck of a doubt, is one of the most difficult sports to master. For a rookie without any experience, it can be really frustrating when one keeps plodding at his amateurish strokes with no traces of noticeable progress.
But for Pastor Apollo, who has been hitting the fairway for years, that’s the very essence of mastering the nuts and bolts of this sport. His frequent ‘tee time’ in the golf course has enhanced his strokes over time.
Spending his leisure time in the highlands of Davao City, playing golf has always been the good Pastor’s ‘breather’ after a hard day’s work being immersed in a series of live broadcasts of his programs. Apart from his basketball routine, he finds golf as his chief diversion to keep him in good shape. But there’s more to this game than meets the eye.
What motivates Pastor Apollo into playing golf is the mental aspect it entails. It is more of a psychological game than a physical one which means a golfer needs to have mental acuity to be able to get the hang of this sport.
Most sports would require physical strength, conditioning, agility and innate prowess to ace a winning score, but golf hits differently as it involves strategic thinking, a deeper level of concentration accompanied by a little stroke of luck to be able to excel in it.
Pastor Apollo once said, “You cannot be overconfident in golf. Each game is different every time. You have to be better than you were yesterday. You could never rest on your laurels,” “That’s why it challenges me most.”
