Children from the Quilombola Community in Brazil Join the ACQ International Children’s Day
The joy and delight on the faces of children in the Quilombola Community in Brazil were simply undeniable as they celebrated the birthday of Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy, the president of the Associacao Children’s Joy International do Brasil. This special occasion is celebrated in various parts of the world, and every April 25th, Pastor Apollo distributes gifts, abundant food, and toys to children around the globe.
This year’s theme, ‘One Culture, Culture of Love,’ saw a team of dedicated volunteers heading to the Quilombola Community, situated 50 kilometers from the capital city of Brasilia in Cidade Ocidental. This particular community, Quilombo Mesquita, was chosen out of more than 220 Quilombo communities in Brazil to celebrate the ACQ International Children’s Day.
It’s worth noting that just three years ago, this tribe of African victims of the Transatlantic Slave Trade arrived in Brazil, and Quilombo means “Forest Warrior” in the Bantu language. This community is composed of escaped slaves who fought for their freedom and now reside in the middle of the forest.
In the weeks leading up to the celebration, volunteers personally went to the area to introduce the mission and intention of conducting a feeding and birthday celebration for all the children.
On the morning of April 25th, ACJIB volunteers arrived in the municipality for the grand celebration, and the children’s faces lit up with happiness when they realized what was in store for them.
As they patiently lined up at the food and game booths, accompanied by their parents, the children couldn’t contain their excitement and were all smiles during their adopted birthday.
The cake blowing ceremony was undoubtedly a highlight of the event, with the children’s eyes widening at the sight of the giant cake, and they sang Happy Birthday to Pastor Apollo in unison.
This heartwarming celebration truly embodied the essence of love and kindness that Pastor Apollo and his organization continuously espouse, bringing happiness and joy to children all around the world.
