The Promise of Forgiveness
Many times in our service as followers of Christ, we are not forgiven of our sins because instead of confessing those sins, we hide them. We don’t want to tell Him, so we are not forgiven. The promise of forgiveness is for those who confess their sin before God.
He says it here in 1 John 2:1-2:
1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
Remember that the devil is the accuser of the brethren. You sin sometimes because you are too young in the faith, or Satan used somebody to tempt you and then you fell from the strength that God has given to you.
In other words, you committed a sin. And then, the devil is swift to accuse you because he is the accuser of the brethren day and night. And he will give you guilt in your heart until you fall from the grace of God. He puts guilt in our hearts until we become depressed and discouraged. He removes the evidence of our service to the Lord God.
When you have a case, you get a lawyer. The lawyer will tell you, “Tell me everything because I will defend you.” So, you tell him the truth and you know he will defend you.
Thank God we have an advocate, an attorney-in-fact. His name is JESUS CHRIST.
It is important that we confess and unload our sins to the Lord. Tell Him so that He can defend us. After that, you will feel the spiritual strength that is in you return because the Lord will make you righteous and cleanse you from all unrighteousness. He has made the forgiveness of our sins possible.
To whom do we need to confess and how?
Psalm 51:4 said, “Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightiest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.”
When you sin against God, do not approach a man. Come to the Lord and confess your sins. Like David, you say, “Against You only, Lord, only against You have I done this evil. So, Lord, forgive me. Cleanse me.” When you confess like that, your advocate, the Lord Jesus Christ, the Bible says, will cleanse you from all unrighteousness. And so David was forgiven before the Lord.
Let us not hide our sins because we have a God who can forgive our them, if we confess those sins and mistakes to Him.
